The addition of a new child to a family is a wondrous occasion! An adopted baby is just as much a miracle as any other and should be celebrated as such.

And all babies need "stuff", even an adopted child, so having an adoption baby shower for this child is not only acceptable, but necessary.

There are some differences you should consider when attempting to plan this a baby shower for adoption. You will need to know the age of the adopted child first of all.
Some couples may have adopted a baby, but

Give Me Some Remedies For Colic - I Can't Take it Anymore!

Yes, that is what I felt during my daughter's first 3 months in life. I was totally exhausted through body and mind. I never got any quality sleep and everything I could hear was that heartbreaking screaming cutting through flesh and bone. I will now give you a quick insight in my life during this time and tell you about all the remedies for colic I tried, with and without luck. Go ahead and read it!

My Newborn - Oh, She Is So Cute...

I heard this phrase over and over again, and I could not agree less. My own little daughter, that I should feel so much love for, and I just felt NOTHING! She was a little monster or alien or whatever... I didn't care. She ruined my life day and night, with her endless screaming and crying, and I did not even feel sorry for her, only for myself.

It all started the first night when we came home from the hospital with our first born, suddenly, out of nowhere, she started crying so loud and with that sharp voice, making you feel like someone is scratching a fork on a plate x 100.

After a couple of hours of constant screaming, my wife got some kind of nervous reaction, so I started to call half of our families, parents and I don't know what... Panic attack, the first night! It is so comical, because at that moment we could not even imagine what the next 3 months would be like...

Terror and Torture - Please Give Me Some Remedies For Colic

Our lives were totally demolished during the coming weeks. I could barely go to work, and once there I often fell asleep, actually, work became kind of a sanctuary for me, but of course I didn't tell my wife that. The little monster as I called her during this time, started her screaming periods around lunch every day, and kept going almost constantly until a couple of hours after midnight, every single day. Then she fell asleep totally exhausted.

I still remember those nights of torture, when your body screams of pain and for more sleep. But you have this little creature in your arms, just screaming in your face, until you just feel like giving up everything and just die. These were really crazy times, and if you have been there, you know what I'm talking about.

But What About Those Remedies For Colic?

OK, I will tell you some of the remedies for colic we tried. We did it all, believe me! Going for a car ride, with the pram, swinging her with the car seat (actually this was a success), giving her lots of supplements and home made gripe waters, taking her to the doctor who indeed told us he had never heard anything like it before.

We also made some visits at the local chiropractor who gave her back massage, we bumped her but, we sang for her, played the guitar, played music, danced with her.... sort of like everything you could ever imagine. And nothing helped except the swinging car seat.

So, are there any working remedies for colic babies out there? Yes, there are! I really wish I would have known then what I know today. I have told you my story and what it was like to have a colicky baby. It really can be distressful and you need to take action as soon as you believe your baby has symptoms like these.

Baby Shower Game "Distraction"

The best baby games for baby showers to entertain all of your guests and let the mother-to-be benefit from the experience of others. Your baby shower then will become more than a party. It's an entertaining learning experience.

One of the most educational baby games for baby showers for new moms is also often the most fun. It's called Distraction. This is for two or three players at one time. The supplies you need will be two to three dolls.

Because baby showers are usually held in the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy. It's probably more relaxing and fun for the mommy-to-be to only watch. This is because this is one of the more active baby games for baby showers.

Two or three volunteers (perhaps one or two people who don't yet have children?) are the actors. They begin simply by holding the dolls. The baby shower hostess tells them their babies are crying. They each try to console the baby.

This is where the distractions begin. Members of the "audience" (your other baby shower guests, including the guest of honor) begin yelling out distractions one at a time. All of the acting mothers have to deal with each distraction, while still comforting their crying baby.

As baby games for baby showers are for the entertainment of the baby shower guests, let them get as creative as possible. Potential distractions can include the dog needing to go outside. Then maybe they waited too long to let the dog out and have to clean up a doggie accident while not dropping the crying baby.

Meanwhile, the UPS man comes to the door needing the mommies to sign for a package. The phone might also be ringing while something is burning on the stove. Get the picture?

It's hilarious to watch the ways the mommy actors deal with all of the distractions. These types of baby games for baby showers are also good for the real mommy-to-be to pick up some words of advice from veteran mothers.

She might get a few ideas while enjoying a good laugh. Maybe when the time comes for her to actually deal with similar distractions. She will think back to the baby games for baby showers at her party and be able to smile.

Other great baby games with an educational twist - both for the mommy-to-be and the baby-to-be - include birthday card or videotape advice activities. With the birthday cards, each guest gets an age.It's a good idea to start with age 10 or so. The baby shower guests then write a special message to the baby. They write this message on a card that will be opened once the child reaches the age specified. Each baby shower guest should read her card aloud before sealing the envelope.

Videotape advice requires a camcorder or digital video camera. However, if those are not available, it can also be done with a tape recorder. But that isn't quite as nice. The baby shower guests simply each give words of advice to the new mom. The hostess can guide the baby shower guests as far as advice.

Possible ideas for your baby shower games are "When you're feeling stressed, you should....." or describing what to expect with different ages. Not only are these activities fun baby games for your baby shower guests, they will be cherished keepsakes for Mom to enjoy over the years.

Instead of just rehashing the same old baby games, try to bring in some creativity to provide more entertainment to your baby shower guests. And always think of why you're all there - to celebrate the birth of a child and help prepare a new mother.

1. Check to see if your baby is hungry

2. Walk with your baby

Walk with your baby or sit in a rocking chair. The continuous movement will soothe your baby. However, be sure to place your baby's head close to your chest so that it can hear your heartbeat.

3. Burping while feeding

Try burping your baby more frequently during feeding.

4. Know that a colic attack is coming and be prepared for it

When dealing with a colicky baby it is best to plan ahead. For example, if your baby usually has colic attacks in the afternoon/evening then you should do most of your household chores in the morning. Make sure that if your baby has been awake for most of the morning that he/she gets a nap in the afternoon and you take one with them. 5. Play music

This is when the baby snuggles his/her head into the space that is located between the jaw and chest of the parent. Your jawbone drapes gently over the baby's head and your voice box presses against its' head. Small babies hear not only with their ears but also the vibrations that go through their skull. If you sing something monotonous like a lullaby it will help your baby to drift off to sleep. This technique works best with dad's because they have a lower pitch and higher vibration from their voice.

9. A special favourite - especially good for dad's as well!

This is a good technique for dad's to do. What you have to do is drape your bare skinned but diapered baby over your bare chest. Make sure that your baby's ear is over your heartbeat. The rhythm of your heart combined with the rhythm of your chest moving as you are breathing and a bit of rhythmic patting on your baby's back will usually soothe both of you.

10. Use motion

Some babies prefer to be still when calmed down whereas, others like the use of motion to be soothed. Motion swings set at approximately 60 beats per minute is an excellent device to be used for those types of babies. The constant motion is great for relaxing the baby. However, you should bear in mind that for some babies this may not work as the swing only provides a back and forth motion.

A vibrating bouncer is another excellent tool to use to calm down your colicky baby. The vibration and rhythmic sound coming from this device will soothe your baby.

Caring for a colicky baby can be extremely stressful and frustrating at times but, remember it's not your fault. Also, bear in mind that you need to take care of yourself as well. You can't be very soothing to your baby if you are all tense and stressed. You need to try to relax and remember that your baby will outgrow this phase. In addition, keep in mind that if you need to take a break from your baby's crying then do so, there is nothing wrong with that. Family and relatives are often understanding and happy to take care of your baby when you need some time out for yourself, even if your baby is crying. If there is no one around it's ok to put your baby in the crib, let him/her cry and take a break before trying to make another attempt.

Do not fear or worry too much if your child has colic as your baby will outgrow it. However, do consult your doctor if your baby screams constantly or if your baby's colic attacks are accompanied with excessive vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. These symptoms may indicate a more serious problem.

How I Got My Toddler to Sleep Through the Night - And How You Can Too

If you are a mom of young children, you have probably read all there is to read about getting your baby or toddler to sleep all the way through the night. You may even be surprised by the fact that the title says "toddler" instead of "baby. After all, there are countless books out there that tell you exactly what to do. I've heard it all "let them cry it out", "start after the first few weeks", "never let them sleep with you", etc. Well, guess what? It just doesn't always work. Suddenly you find yourself waking up several times a night for a 2-3 year old, wondering how it ever happened.

For me, it happened partly because I think the first several months are important for a child to be tended to, and it worked just fine for my other two children (plus my husband has insomnia, and this particular child was so pitchy when she cried that she disturbed not only my family my neighbors as well). Yet, it was time for her to stop waking up so many times a night, and I was determined to finally get her to sleep for long stretch. So, at 10 months old, I decided to tough it out and let her hang on to her stubborn will as long as she wished. She screamed for two hours straight before I went to bed to try and ignore it - but she wasn't done. I peeked in to check on her, as the crib was strategically positioned for me to be able to peek through the crack I had left without her seeing, and she was just plain mad. I went to bed and waited for the screaming to subside.

Now at 2 1/2 hours of screaming, it suddenly the got louder, and seemingly closer, and then further away. Naturally I had to get up and check. She had flipped herself out of her crib to come looking for me! There were no pillows to stand on, she just did a pull up and flipped herself out, then started through the house to find me and give me a piece of her mind. Keep in mind, this 10 month-old little girl had just started walking and was not a large child. She was only in the 10th percentile in for her height and weight, and she still managed to maneuver out of her crib like a skilled monkey. At this point I knew my nights of sleeping without a child were over. It was just plain dangerous and my baby's safety came before convenience.

Some of you may wonder why I didn't let her cry it out sooner. I tried. She made my other kids cry and gave my husband sleepless nights for days. Frankly, she probably would have flipped herself out even sooner than that and really hurt herself. So now being stuck with a stubborn toddler, the only method I found that worked was the "star system".

The star system was so simple, and yet I had to wait until she was old enough to understand it. If she slept through the night, she got a star. When she got 20 stars in a row, she got to pick out the toy of her choice at the toy store. The catch to it was, 20 stars in a row. So, if she only slept 3 nights, and missed the fourth, she had to start over. Every time she got distracted, frustrated, or lost sight of her goal, I took her to the store to see what she was missing. There were many fits and tantrums, but it finally worked. It took 3 whole months but it worked -- and she was proud of herself too.

For all you moms like me, we are all in a place (or have been in a place) where some other parents judge us or simply don't understand. Sometimes you just can't apply the rules, make it work, and still feel good about it. So all you moms should take comfort in knowing that you are not the only one. It is not always lack of discipline or structure, sometimes it's just what life hands you... and it only gets better.

Finally, bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until it sets. Cool before serving and Enjoy!

2. Tomato Pasta - For 10 Months And Over

INGREDIENTS:

1 tablespoon margarine

1/4 cup cheddar or mild cheese, finely grated

1 large tomato, skinned, seeded and chopped

1 teaspoon baby rice

1 tablespoon cottage cheese

1/2 cup small pasta shapes

METHOD:

Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the pack. Melt the margarine in a saucepan, add tomato to it and then cook over a low heat for not more than two minutes. Remove the pan from heat. Add the cheeses until they melt into a sauce.

Finally, stir in the baby rice. Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta and serve. And Tomato Pasta for your baby is ready to serve.

Ovulation Calendar to Conceive a Boy - There's a More Reliable Way

I run a website that is geared toward couples that are trying to conceive a son. Recently, I received a request to include an "ovulation calendar to help conceive a boy" on the site. I wrote back and explained why I don't include these. The reason is that there are far superior, and less old fashioned, methods that will yield much better, more reliable results. I'll explain why this is so in this article and tell you what works better. I'll also provide you with additional things that you can do to greatly increase your odds of getting the son you want.

How Ovulation Calendars Are Supposed To Help You Conceive A Boy: You have a few choices with these calendars. You can use one of the online versions available or you can use a traditional paper calendar. They basically work like this. You enter in the first and last day of your menstrual cycle a few months prior to when you actually want to conceive. This will tell you the length of your cycle. You are then directed to conceive approximately two weeks prior to the start of your next period, or mid way through your cycle. For most women with a 28 day cycle, this is somewhere around day 14. This is really just a numbers game. There is no physical testing taking place. It is just a guesstimate, really.

There are problems with this, though. Not every woman has a 28 day cycle and sometimes, women will ovulate earlier or later in their cycles. Not every month is exactly the same for every woman.

I experienced this first hand when I was not having any success using old fashioned methods like calendaring, cervical mucus monitoring, and basal temperature when I was trying to get pregnant. Every time I approached day 14, I would anticipate all of the signs to tell me that the time was right, but I was never really sure and I wasn't getting pregnant.

Finally, I started using an ovulation predictor and was horrified when I did not get a positive reading around day 14. I was afraid I wasn't ovulating at all, but was stunned when my saliva showed a positive reading at day 20 one month and even later the next. It wasn't that I wasn't ovulating. It was just that I was ovulating almost a week later than the calendars were telling me I should. And, once I knew this, I had no problems conceiving.

The Science Behind Conceiving A Boy: The reason all of these ovulation predictors come into play is because correctly timing your conception to correspond with your ovulation is vital to conceiving a boy. That's because, comparatively speaking, the sperm that produce a boy are weak . So, if you conceive well before the egg is ready, the boy sperm will deteriorate, weaken, and die off before conception can even happen. Therefore, it's important to know exactly when you ovulate so that you aren't too early (if you are, the odds are better for a girl.) Ultimately, you want to conceive on the day of or just after ovulation to get a male baby.

Ovulation predictors can tell you more definitively when this happens by testing your urine or your saliva rather than just guessing. I like the saliva models better because they are reusable and you don't have to use first morning urine or worry about running out.

Other Things You Should Address If You Are Trying To Conceive A Boy: It's vitally important that you time your conception right, but don't stop short there. There are other things that can optimize the weak boy sperm's odds. One way is to use intercourse positions that give these little guys less of a distance to travel. This means deeper penetration.

Another thing that you will need to do is lower your acidity and PH. The reason for this is that a high vaginal PH is not at all friendly to boy sperm. But, you can neutralize this through your diet and / or through douching or both (using both together will get you faster results.) Again, there are tools that can make this easier. You can test your PH with strips you can get online or at health food places. Then, you'll know how much work has to be done before you're at the optimal levels to conceive a boy. There are also food lists and douche recipes to take the mystery out of this.

The real key is to get the timing right, get the positioning right, and then get the environment right so that all of these variables are working together to yield far greater odds for success (over 95%, some say) than a simple, old fashioned calendar that many times leaves you guessing.

Pregnancy Stages Month One - from the moment your egg is fertilized your baby's genetic blueprint is set. Following fertilization the egg turns into a ball of cells and implants itself into the wall of the womb. Pregnancy Stages Month Four - During the forth month the baby continues to grow, toe and fingernails appear and fine hair appears all over the body. Your little miracle should now be able to curl their fingers and toes and suck their thumb.

Pregnancy Stages Month Five - Hair, eyelashes and eyebrows grow and the baby's senses start to develop. The baby continues to grow to approximately 13cm and a creamy white substance is produced to coat the body and protect the baby's skin.

Pregnancy Stages Month Six - The baby's growth slows down, he starts to have more control over his movements and his digestive and immune systems and lungs start to mature.

Pregnancy Stages Month Seven - All major organs accept the lungs are functioning, cells mature and the brain develops. A baby born in the seventh month has a good chance of survival.

Pregnancy Stages Month Eight - The baby can open and close his eyes and develops a sense of taste. He may settle in position for birth and looks very much like a newborn.

Pregnancy Stages Month Nine - The baby is now fully formed and growing. The baby develops a thick layer of subcutaneous fat and can gain up to 225g per week. In the last month the baby's head will usually engage into the pelvis in readiness for birth. Less than 10% of babies arrive on their due date with around 85% arriving in the first two weeks of month ten.
