Why Early Interaction With Your Baby Is Key For Future Devlopment

Whether you're a parent or a scientist, it's obvious that interaction with your baby is important. From an early age, babies have a need for interaction. Whether it's reciting a nursery rhyme or holding them close, this bonding is key for their development.

Studies of newborn monkeys who were given a mannequin mother at birth showed that, even when the mannequins were made of soft material and provided formula to the baby monkeys, the babies were better socialized when they had live mothers to interact with. The results further showed that without live mothers, the baby monkeys were more prone to suffer from despair, as well as having a failure to thrive. Though not conclusive evidence, scientists suspect that the similar lack of physical interaction between parent and baby can cause the same problems in human beings.

There a five main ways that baby's bond - " Touch " Visual " Movement " Imitation " Sound

From day one, touch is one of the most important factors in interacting for a baby. Whilst pleasing for a parent to hold their baby near, it's a great way to promote baby's development. Visual and Movement can be seen at the same time - when the baby is being cradled, and a person walks by, the baby's eyes will automatically follow. A simple activity, but constantly stimulating their brain.

Not so easily noticeable, but proven, is that a newborn baby tries to imitate the facial expressions of those around. Psychologists Andrew Meltzoff and M. Keith Moore conducting several studies into imitation, and it was proved that even a newborn baby, less than one hour old, can imitate an adult in some shape or form. The most used example was for an adult to stick their tongue out, and the baby's response was to reply with the same action. In some cases, the baby would have a dummy in their mouths when the adult stuck out their tongue. The baby would continue to suck on their dummy until content, remove it, and stick out their tongue.

Verbal interaction with a baby, even before birth, has always been favoured as an interaction activity. In a similar study, Meltzoff and Moore showed infants two screens. One had a film of an adult saying "ahh" and the other of an adult saying "eee". In between these two screens was a speaker that could play either an "ahh" sound or an "eee" sound. When either of the sounds was played, the babies consistently looked towards the film that the sound fit.

Constant interaction throughout childhood is equally important. It has been recognised by TV companies who create stimulating and educational programmes for newborns to pre-teens, and by toy manufactures who are producing interactive toys for the same age ranges. Brother Max have a Bath Toys set that allows an infant to interact and become familiar with the materials they would use to wash themselves, whilst having fun at the same time.

At a slightly older age, Little Helper have an item called the 'Fun Pod', which allows for a 12 month old baby to a 4 year old to interact with adults in a range of activities. Aimed at use in the kitchen, the children can help, for example, with food preparation, whilst continually talking to the adult, interacting in all the five main ways - touch, visual, movement, imitation and sound.

There are several accounts of children who have been neglected and closed in a room until they are at the age of 8 or 9. When discovered, these children are underdeveloped and lack any form of social skills. The interaction they have lacked as a young infant detrimentally affected them in the years ahead.

The amount of scientific evidence couldn not prove this as much as those who know babies bests - parents. Whether a parent, grand-parent or guardian, they know better than anyone how important interaction with baby is - not only for baby, but for them, too.

Thermos Foogo Leak-Proof SS 7 Ounce Sippy Cup with Handles, Pink, 6 Months

Thermos Foogo Leak-Proof SS 7 Ounce Sippy Cup with Handles, Pink, 6 Months Thermos Foogo Leak-Proof SS 7 Ounce Sippy Cup with Handles, Pink, 6 Months
- I ended up buying this sippy cup (together with the pink 12oz straw bottle) from BJ's where they were cheaper (23$ for both). My daughter loves the cup; I like it too, even though, sometimes - just as others said here, depending on how well you reassemble it - it leaks. Both the sippy cup and the straw bottle do a very good job as a thermos. And I don't consider they are hard to put back together; actually, having all these parts, you can clean them better; just make sure they are dry before you reassemble them, and be a little more careful when putting them together.

Your Baby, Month 11

During the eleventh month, language development continues to improve. The baby can now understand simple words and phrases. At this point, it is best for parents to avoid baby talk. Instead, they should repeat the correct words and phrases that their baby is trying to convey and speak clearly to their infant. There is no better way to foster language development than to have a conversation with the baby, whether it is about making dinner or the toys in his or her room. Communication is vital.

The eleventh month may bring about an exciting and memorable milestone: the baby's first steps. Many babies will begin to walk short distances without holding onto furniture. Most babies should also be able to sit upright by this stage. Watching the baby take his or her first steps is an unforgettable experience for all parents.

As the eleventh month continues, the baby will become increasingly independent, due in part to his or her ability to take steps. For instance, during meal times, the baby may be able to hold his or her own cup while drinking and to feed himself or herself. Still, the baby will rely on his or her parents for added support.

By the end of the eleventh month, the baby should be able to understand simple instructions, although he or she is not likely to follow them. Tone of voice is important here to convey meaning. Although the baby is too young for rules, it is never too early to start teaching right from wrong and safe from unsafe.

Choosing an Activity Center For a Baby

At about three months of age, your baby is considered ready for an activity center. At three months your baby is beginning to reach for things, they are also shaking rattles and seem to be busier than they were just two months ago. This is the perfect time for you to give your baby something to do to keep them entertained. Moreover, giving your baby something to do will allow you to have a few moments to yourself to get things done.

Here are the steps you should follow when choosing an activity center for your baby.

Step one: Look for centers that have adjustable legs. Adjustable legs are needed on these toys because it allows you to raise or lower it as your baby grows. Some will start off as something that you put baby under and allow the toys to dangle from above and as your baby gets older, you can raise the legs. Others will start on the floor and have legs that can be adjusted to turn the activity center into a table. Allowing a toy to grow with your baby will increase the time that your baby can use the toy.

Step two: The more toys that a baby center has the more expensive it will be, which is great if you can afford it. Babies love having several new toys and experiences to explore, the more there is for them to do to stay interested. Toy centers will often have toys that light up and sing, which adds to the final cost of the toy.

Step three:Activity centers will come with toys that can be adjusted. This means that you can raise and lower toys or even change their position, which helps keep your baby interested in the toy longer. The toys that can be moved from one position to the next are going to be more expensive than the activity centers that allow you to raise or lower the toy levels.

Step four:You do not need to spend a lot of money on activity centers you can buy a basic one that comes with the basic toys and it can still keep your baby entertained. You can also place toys that your baby already has on it, which can help you obtain toys that light up and make music.

Step five:No matter which style of activity center you are going to be choosing you want to make sure that the toys that come with the center are bright colors. Young babies cannot see fine detail; their eyes are not able to focus well yet. Bright colors draw their attention. You also want to make the toys interesting. For example, when they grab a rattle it can make different noises or have different textures.

Step six:Activity centers require your baby to lay underneath toys that dangle from above or sit in the center, so most come with a type of pad for your baby. When choosing a baby center you want to make sure that the material that your baby will be sitting or laying on is soft and durable. You also want to make sure the color does not show dirt easily. Machine washable is a good option to look for because it will need to be washed on a weekly basis.

Step seven:
If you have an extremely active baby, you can look into purchasing an activity center that comes with springs so that your baby can bounce. If you go this route, make sure it has flip-down braces that will keep it firmly in place once your baby really starts to bounce. If getting an activity center that comes equipped with a seat make, sure the seat spins freely from side to side with no possibilities of fingers being stuck or pinched.

Baby Speech Development

One thing that I've come to realize as a father of an active child is to always expect the unexpected. For instance, I've always assumed that children soak up their surroundings and learn extremely quickly. What I didn't expect is that everytime my 10 month old greets people now that she's learned from us to wave and say "hi".

I've read about it in development books and on forums but actually witnessing my little girl become such a socialite is blowing me a way. Since then me and the wife are constantly working with her on her speech development and to help her progress to a gabby baby.

If your little one is quiet or you'd like to help speed along your baby's speech development here are some tips that I would give:

- Talk to your baby all the time. Talk in adult words as well. Even if it is simply walking down the hall to her room for a diaper change ask her how her day has been. You may feel a little akward but it goes miles for helping your baby develop its speech pattern.

- Encourage your babies speech. If your baby is learning the word "Dada" then make a game of it. Hide behind something and say "Where's dada" and poke your head out. Also, if your baby is asking for her bah ask her if she wants her bottle. Try and discourage you and family members from using infant words for real objects. Don't ask if she wants her "bah" unless you want her using that for the next year.

- Expose your baby to new words and gestures. If she points to something tell her what it is. I probably spend 30 minutes collectively throughout the day showing my baby pictures of mommy, daddy, the doggy, the baby, etc. We walk down the hall where the pictures are hung and she'll point to a picture and I'll say "Who is that pretty baby?".

- Expand your babies vocabulary. Lasty. Read, read, read, and read some more to your baby. Even if it is the same story back to back. It may bore you to tears but you are building new neural pathways for your baby with each pass through of the book. Besides, your baby generally will tell you when she's bored with that book and wants a new one.

Hopefully this helps to get you started or reinforces what you've already known. Your baby is a mirror image of what you do. If you are constantly quiet and watching TV or on the computer then your baby will be a recluse and quiet as well.

Creatine - How to Buy Safely

Nutrition Creatine - Really worth it?

I have noticed over the years that the demand for Creatine or Nutritional products to boost your overall fitness has increased. The increase in sales of these products are due to many ordinary people having no time to workout, there time being taken up by family issues, work related issues or anything that distracts them from working out.

The global inflation is also a big factor in this. The raised price of most things leave people short changed, making it unable to join a gym for a ridiculous monthly payment, the options to stay/get fit without any money is to workout at home with whatever you have around you or to go out running and simply get outdoor exercise. Either of these two will take up time that as i said, people just don't have, making the easy solution Creatine. Creatine is known as the "muscle boost" with its claims to improve your muscle gain in half the time, this would surely catch everyone's eyes, especially with its low price that rounds of to about 40GBP for 2 months, outstanding.

Is There A Catch?
Is there a downside to this magic formula? Many people are concerned about taking this, due to rumors of tragic side effects that range from as small as indigestion all the way to painful migraine and diarrhea. These are not true, only people with allergic reactions to some of the ingredients have this kind of side effects, but no one should be using a supplement without reading the label carefully. No side effects are stated, But to be totally sure what you are getting is what it says on the label, I would get it from a website that is specifically designed for Creatine, and not websites that sell anything that you can find in your local argos.

Summary
So, my conclusion is to buy safely, read the labels, and yes... I recommend Nutrition Creatine highly.

Baby Games For 3-6 Month-Olds

As my little one grows up I'm always looking for new ways to keep her development moving. Here is a list of some games you can play from 3 to 6 months of age.

1. A piece of glass separates me from my best friend. around 4 or 5 months she was really looking at things and smiling at things so my wife found out something fun. Find a big mirror that you can stand in front of while holding baby. I would move her close enough until she would catch a glimpse of herself. She would immediately light up and start cooing and giggling. To this day this is our pre-bath routine. As she got older I would change distances to help keep her eyes exercised.

2. Help me name that. An adaptation to the baby eye-spy we played when she was younger was this game. Once she could reach out and touch things I would encourage her to touch things while I named it. Sometimes I think she got it other times she'd look at me and just grin. Again, this is another game we continue to play.

3. I must be butter cause I'm on a roll! Once she was used to being on her belly on the floor I'd get down and play with her. I'd put toys that were just out of her reach and have her try and get them. If she did happen to roll over or get the toy somehow I would get real excited and tell her how good she is and how big she is. As time progressed she loved the excitment I'd give her and she would do it much faster.

4. ABs of steel. She always was trying to sit up and see things when she developed her baby muscles. In an attempt to encourage this and help grow her muscles we would have her hold our fingers as she sat up. At first we had to pull her up to look around. As she got older and stronger she would pull up while holding on. At this point she just sits right up by herself. This helped to encourage her to be curious and to build some core body muscles.

5. If your happy and you know it. Around 3 months we really got into using her arms and legs when we sung songs. We would play 'this little piggy', 'patty cakes', & 'if your happy and you know it'. We would either clap her hands or her feet to the beat and sing to her. At first we got the craziest look. As she learned to like it she would get the biggest grin. Another thing that I would do is play a pop or rock song and have her be my little 'drummer'. I'd sit her on my lap facing away from me and take her hands and have her 'play the drums'. She would giggle and giggle.

We still play a few of the games from when she was younger but alot of them we've adapted to either be more physical, vocal, or visual. Also, make sure you're always talking to your baby. No matter where we are I'm having a conversation with her. Telling her about my day, asking her about hers, or reading things to her. The most entertaining is when we are shopping at the grocery. She loves hearing the nutritional facts of foods. Go figure.

Child Development - 32 Months

Parents of toddlers face an endless series of challenges. However, as the third year of life begins to unfold, it becomes increasingly easier for parents to understand their child's personality and how to deal with their individual idiosyncrasies.

By the age of 32 months, most toddlers are engaging in some form of parallel play. Parallel play refers to playing alongside another child, rather than interacting with the child in a game or other activity. Solo play also remains common at this stage, so parents should not be alarmed with the toddler engages in both solo and parallel play.

Eventually, the child will begin to form his or her own friendships. This may occur sooner rather than later depending on how much interaction the toddler has with other children his or her own age (for instance, if the child attends daycare of preschool classes). Parents should always be sure to encourage budding friendships.

One potential barrier to playtime success is bossiness. It is quite normal for toddlers at this age to be ego-centric. It is good for parents to know that this is a stage that usually passes. Still, it is important to teach the toddler about good manners and empathy. Giving the child a few simple choices can also foster a sense of control, which makes the child less likely to act out in the form of egocentric behavior.

Another new development that might occur around the age of 32 months is crybaby syndrome. Children often use crying as a form of emotional expression. This, too, is usually a phase that will pass for most children. However, some children are more sensitive than others, so this can also be an indication of the toddler's personality.

Parents of a 32-month-old should consider each change as it happens and do their best to prepare for the changes that still lie ahead.

Along with being a proud father, Joseph enjoys writing and gardening. One of his favorite web sites is Garden Harvest Supply which offers tomato plants and herb plants for sale.

Robeez Infant/Toddler Sandal Slip-On,Navy,0-6 Months (US Infant 1-2 M)

Buy Cheap Robeez Infant/Toddler Sandal Slip-On,Navy,0-6 Months (US Infant 1-2 M) at Amazon.com Order New!

These were my son's first pair of shoes. I got them at around 10 months. My pediatrician recommended bare feet for learning to walk, but now that he's walking he needs a little protection with the ability to still "feel the floor." I will probably only use Robeez or Pediped for awhile, even though they seem so very expensive for such tiny little things. My son wears a lot of hand-me down clothes, but I won't use hand-me down shoes as they conform to the individual foot. These are super-soft and easy to get on. My son adores them and loves putting them on. He just sits and wiggles his feet and is so pleased that he now has shoes on his feet like Mommy and Daddy. I've had them for a couple of months now, and they have proved quite durable. They stay on his feet very well, which is hard to come by in a baby shoe. I got these instead of pediped for the elastic around the ankle that Robeez. you can get them cheapest on Amazon through this link.

Robeez Infant/Toddler Sandal Slip-On,Navy,0-6 Months (US Infant 1-2 M) Feature

  • 0-6 Mo = Size 1-2M, 6-12 Mo = 3-4 M, 12-18 Mo = 5-6 M, 18-24 Mo = 7-8 M, 2-3 Yr = 9-10 M, 3-4 Yr = 11-12 M
  • Soft leather cushions and protects, flexes with each step, and breathes to keep feet cool and comfy
  • Textured suede sole prevents slipping
  • Comfortable and supportive, yet flexible and soft, Robeez shoes are the best choice for your child's developing feet
  • Machine washable, air dry

Robeez Infant/Toddler Sandal Slip-On,Navy,0-6 Months (US Infant 1-2 M) Overview

Robeez shoes are durable, washable, and wearable for active babies and toddlers up to four years. Our soft sole leather shoes are recommended by pediatricians and medical experts. Robeez skid-resistant, soft-sole baby shoes encourage feet to flex and toes to grip, allowing feet to grow naturally. And moms love Robeez cute baby shoes because they slip-on easily and stay on baby's feet. Features: Soft flexible soles recommended by experts Easy slip-on, stay-on elasticized ankle band Skid-resistant textured suede soles Washable by hand or machine Durable, quality leather and lined upper Soft, comfortable leather cushions and protects Breathable to keep feet cool and comfortable

The only shoes that stay on my wiggly little boy's feet. - S. Labandz -
Very cute, very comfy, and approved by this Physical Therapist mommy to let my little one develop his lower leg muscles and balance.

Pediped is better - B. M. Lackey - USA
These were so cute when they arrived and I was excited to use them, however, I found that after my son turned one, they became less useful due to the flimsy nature of the sole. As others have mention in the PediPed reviews, I have problems with the Robeez leaving deep elastic marks on my son, even when thick socks are used. Robeez are great for under one year, but not great for kids on the move. I recommend an equivalent looking PediPed sandal: Pediped Harvey Sandal

How to Teach Your Baby to Spoon-feeding

Psychologists affirm that it is a mother, who determines an age when her child begins to eat with a spoon independently, as all matters of upbringing fall on her shoulders. Some babies could eat with a spoon even before 1 year old, whereas a baby of a too anxious mother could not eat by himself even at 2 years old. The result depends on the fact when parents allow their child to try eating at the table. And the earlier this happens, the better result will be for child.

Parental task is to support their baby's pleasure while eating.
A majority of children show a wish to eat with a spoon at 9-11 months, and, if parents encourage such independence of children, then, by 1,5 years the most persistent ones will be able to "wield a spoon" perfectly without any help.

Training for independent spoon-feeding begins at 6 months already, when a child tries to eat by himself, holding a cookie or cracker in his hand. Then at 8 months, when a baby can already sit confidently, you can seat him at the table in a children's seat and give him a spoon. If you do not do this in time, then sometimes you can see a baby snatching a spoon from a mother's hand by himself, as he feels a necessity to learn eating by himself. A mother can miss this opportunity in time or treat it as whims during a meal. However, if such thing happens during next spoon-feeding, it is better to give this spoon to a baby, and take another one for yourself. The main is to keep a baby's pleasure while the process of eating.

Some useful advices

Before each spoon-feeding fulfill a ritual of hands washing. Firstly, like any other adult member of a family, a baby also needs to wash his hands before having a meal. Secondly, this will dispose a baby to the process of eating.

It is better to buy unbreakable crockery with bright colored pictures for your baby. Put your baby's food in a special plate. On no account put all food at once on the table, as you may distract your baby's attention and he will begin requiring only what he wants.

Be ready that your baby will smear food firstly, after you give him a spoon, and then he will begin flapping the table and plate with a spoon. So, put a small apron on your baby for sure, and cover the floor with a bog oil-cloth.

If a baby throws a spoon on the floor, trying to eat with his hands - do not rail at him. Probably, he wants to eat by himself, but a "mate-spoon" seems to be a "wrecker" for him - it fails to bring food to the mouth, or throws food down the floor, or smears the food on the walls... Of course, in such case, it is easier to have a meal without a spoon. And in several days, your baby will try "taming" his disobedient spoon, looking at his father.

A child quickly discovers that it is not enough yet just to pick up a spoon. He will need several weeks more to learn scooping food and other several weeks to bring food to his mouth, not overturning a spoon. It is clear that a baby gets tired of this difficult work, so he begins playing with food. In such case you should put away everything from table, leaving just several bits of meat on a plate, so that he will have something to experiment with.

Even if a child tries hard to eat with a spoon, he will dirty himself and everything around all the same. If you nip all such impulses in the bud, then he will not be able to learn anything for a long. So it is better to provide yourself with unbreakable crockery, patience and sense of humor - and you will be glad seeing your baby's new skills and abilities every day. Moreover, his intellectual development will be much more successful, if you do not constrain it with endless prohibitions.

Parental practical work

"Our son Paul always liked eating properly. But once, before going for a walk in the afternoon, he began playing up, snatching a spoon out of my hands. Firstly, I was even angry with him, but, when I gave a spoon to my sonny and took another one for myself, I discovered that our 1,5 y.o. Paul tried to scoop a puree with a spoon by himself. Several unsuccessful attempts upset our baby a little, and he allowed us to spoon-feed him again. Since that time we allowed Paul to spoon-feed independently for a while, and then I finished spoon-feeding by myself. Little by little, time of "freedom while having a meal" increased, and quantity of food left in his plate reduced.

On his second birthday he coped with the holiday dinner by himself!"

Stacey Minsky, New-York

"I'm growing my son by myself. Probably, that is why I always try to teach Benny to independence. Since he was 11 months, I seated him in his chair, put a plate with vegetable puree in front of him and gave him a spoon. Of course, little food came to my baby's mouth, in general, the most part turned to be smeared on a chair, table, cloth... But later I could spoon-feed him from other plate without any remonstrance.

Three moths later, my sister and her 3 y.o. daughter Michelle came to our place. In the morning, seeing my Benny sitting at children's table and shoveling up porridge, he shouted: "What a shame!!! Your one can eat by himself already, and we are still spoon-feeding our Michelle!" But, after she seated her daughter at the table and gave her a spoon, she was surprised even more.... Michelle saved her face and, taking a spoon, began eating breakfast, saying: "Hum, he can eat by himself... We also eat by ourselves in our kindergarten...".

Your Baby, Month 9

By the start of the ninth month, the baby has become increasingly mobile. He or she may already be crawling around the house, which raises the risk of bumps, bruises, and falls. As the baby begins to move from crawling to cruising, parents may be tempted to purchase shoes. This is not necessary and can interfere with growth and development in many cases. It is best for the baby to walk around barefoot in order to develop strong arches on the feet as well as leg muscles.

It is important for parents who have not already done so to childproof their homes at this time. The most important areas to childproof are the stairs, which should be equipped with gates, and heavy furniture, which should be securely attached to the walls in order to prevent tipping. All dangerous objects should also be well out of the baby's reach.

The ninth month is also a good time for parents to introduce an activity center to their infant. Babies at this stage become increasingly interested in the world around them, including how objects move. The baby will be fascinated with objects that make sounds or that he or she can manipulate by pulling, twisting, shaking, or poking. Most objects will also be placed in the mouth.

In addition, vision develops further during this month. The baby's long-distance vision is steadily improving, so that he or she can now recognize people and things from across a room. Also, the baby's eye color is now developed by this stage.

Newborn Baby Skin Appearance

The skin of your newborn baby may be visually different from what you may expect, especially if that expectation has been derived from the television, advertisements and glossy magazines showing a clean, calm and smiling newborn baby. There are a number of primary aspects of your new baby's skin that may be apparent.

At first your newborn baby's skin will be coated in a substance called vernix, which is whitish in color and of a greasy texture. Vernix is a natural protective barrier that prevents your baby's skin from absorbing excessive amounts of water and fluid whilst at the same time providing your baby with additional protection from minor skin irritations such as flaking and peeling. Some hospitals remove this substance immediately after delivery of your baby, but some keep it on for a period to aid in maximizing protection for your newborn baby. The standard practice varies from hospital to hospital.

Since your baby has been immersed in fluid for so long, the skin on your baby's hands and feet, as well as appearing wrinkled, may also turn dry and peel to some extent, this will adjust itself rapidly.

A newborn baby's blood vessels are not stable upon delivery and the main visual impact of this is that your baby's skin will appear 'blotchy' in composition. This is entirely normal and as your baby's blood vessel system stabilizes over just a short period of time, the blotchy appearance will disappear.

Darker skin babies will often appear whiter at first, which is due to the low levels of melanin in your baby's skin. This pigment will build up over a period of time and your baby should achieve their natural color at about six months of age.

For the first few days after your new baby is born, you may notice an assortment of minor skin irritations and rashes developing on your baby's skin. In the vast majority of cases these are perfectly harmless and merely a consequence of your baby's newly exposed skin stabilizing, which generally takes about three weeks. There are three common types of skin rash and irritation experienced with a newborn baby. First, where small white spots occur, mainly on the bridge of the nose but can appear on other parts of your baby's face, this is known as Milia. This is simply the result of blocked sebaceous glands, which while regulating, excrete excess sebum on to the surface of the skin.

This is entirely temporary until the relevant glands regulate themselves, but you should avoid squeezing them and causing longer term scars since they will simply disappear after a couple of days of their own accord. Second, which is less of a problem within the carefully controlled and monitored delivery rooms of a hospital, but a heat rash can occur as a direct result of your baby becoming too warm. If this does happen, you should immediately ensure that your baby is not overwrapped in excessive clothes or blankets and that you monitor the temperature of the room and your baby's skin to achieve optimum temperature levels for your baby. Third, another rash that generally occurs in the first week of birth is typified by a spot that has a white centre and a red ring, this rash is known as Urticaria. Again this is another common type of rash which may re-occur in the first month or so, but it does not need any treatment and will disappear very quickly under normal conditions.

Baby Eating Habits - Which Approach Do You Take

One of the first decisions we make is if we breast feed or bottle feed our baby. This will be an emotional topic which ever option you choose. Nutrition is not just about preparing and serving food its much more complex and our own childhood experiences will have a great influence on this. Most parents will feel that the more their child eats the better. They feel that this is a reflection on their parenting and the more the child eats the more successful the parent. A child whose diet consists of dry cereal and juice will leave their parent feeling frustrated and embaressed, these emotions will not go unnoticed by the child and will have a knock on effect. In the case of a faddy eater this may cause the situation to get worse.

Faddy eating is a normal stage in your childs development. A basic fact is that most children will go through a stage of faddy eating. This usually occurs during the toddler years when they go through a stage of being a bit obsessive about most things in their life. Most children go through an obsessive stage when they will only wear clothes of a ertain color or they will only eat one type of food. This is a very normal stage and will soon pass as long as the parent does not fall into the trap of focusing too much on the problem.

The best approach to faddy eating is to stay calm, the chances of your child starving to death is very slim. As long as the child is drinking a lot of fluids and eating some food during the day he should be okay. Make sure that your child is getting the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals, you can do this by putting a vitamin and mineral supplement into his drink, your local pharmasist can recommed one to suit your child. Most children will grow out of this phase, and for those who continue the high stress level of a parent will not help with the situation.

All experts advise to keep all stress and arguments over food to a minimum. The more you focus on this the more you are aggravating the problem. Keep calm and tackle the situation clearly. Some practical tips to help you through this phase are:

It is advisable for toddlers to drink one pint of milk per day. Measure up a pint glass of milk and leave this in the refriderator to be drawn from through out the day. A child should not drink more than this as they will fill up on milk leaving no room in the tummy for solid foods through out the day.

At meal times don't give your child a drink until they are finished their meal as the fluids will give the sensation of being full and they will eat less food. This should encourage them to eat whats on their plate.

The changing of a childs eating pattern will not happen over night. This will take some time and patents. Expect to make gradual progress with this phase.

Your child doesn't have to get all its necessary food requirements at meal times. If your child refuses to sit down to a plate of food don't worry too much. A child can get all his food requirements from small nutritious snacks at regular intervals throughout the day. If your child accepts healthy snacks then these will help provide the range of nutrients they need.

Don't take your childs eating habits personally. Sometimes a parent will get upset if their child is eating at crèche or at another parents house. This is not a reflection on you or your cooking. Sometimes a child will eat when they see another child eating, they wil imitate their peers.

If you are concerned about the effects these eating habits are having on your childs health, don't hesitate to seek the advice of your doctor. As before it maybe that your child will require a supplement during this period to provide some of the nutrients they are currenty missing out on. All supplements are not the same so make sure to get advice from your pharmacist or family doctor.

Baby Bonnets

Your baby can never have too many hats. But I would like to take the time to talk about baby bonnets. There are many types of baby bonnets, you can have them embroidered, crochet or knit. The very fancy baby bonnets can be used for a special occasions, Christenings or family portraits, you can also find other bonnets good for everyday casual wear such as a stroll down the park or even going to the grocery store.

Bonnet's can be purchased online, at retail stores of you have time you can knit or crochet your own for that very special little one. If you would like to create your own you can either go online and find directions on how to knit or crochet one or go to your local hobby shop and purchase a book on how to knit or crochet a baby bonnet.

Baby bonnets usually cover the entire head and are tied under the chin or held with an elastic band that either goes around the chin or around the rim of the bonnet.

Bonnet sizes will vary. It is difficult to tell if a 6-9 month size bonnet will fit your 7 month old baby. So make sure that whether you purchase one or make your own you measure your baby's head and look at the sizes carefully.

You can have bonnets for either boys or girls but generally they are mostly used by baby girls. I have found that some bonnets can become hankies by clipping a few stitches from them. This would be a nice keepsake for the day your baby gets married for the bride to have as "something old."
